Get together a group of friends,(min 4, max 8) I make the studio beautiful, fairy lights, woodburner on in winter, or french doors open on summer nights, a glass of fizz and little treats to nibble on, art materials included, 2hrs session. I am on hand to get you started on some art..a lovely way to have some relaxing, fun and creative time with friends £30 per person.

My aim is for children to create in their individual way, with guidance and facilitation, to feel their own creative satisfaction. Not all coming out with the same end product which is often the case in schools.

I hope to inspire and encourage children to create art that is meaningful to them and also to inform an awareness of the visual arts.

Children attend on a regular basis, so we can work through ideas together and span themes.

It is natural to want to try a one off session, to see if your child is happy before committing to join, and I welcome that.

At the end of each session we will try to make time for discussion and responses about the art created. This is held in a constructive, kindly and respectful manner.

During the sessions we will be looking for inspiration in various ways, some examples are:

The Natural world and animal kingdom: we are in a rural hamlet and within a working farm, so there are often animals in the field beside us and we have many bird, animal and insect visitors!

Sussex coastline, including patterns textures and form in pebbles and landscape, shapes of plants, coastal birds and wildlife.

World art: looking at different countries and their art forms ...

For example the Aboriginal art of Australia, the colour and symbolism of Mexican art, Africa, patterns and symbols and more.

Poems and stories and develop our own interpretations and imaginative imagery from them.

I  show and discuss work of well known artists and sometimes drawing inspiration and our own interpretation of their work.

Some of the mediums we will be working in are, printmaking, collage, charcoal drawing, painting, pastels, model making in plaster and clay, illustration and more projects as they develop.

As well as artworks on paper, we will make items like printed book marks, hand-printed books, marbled paper etc.

Sometimes the children get a chance to be included in Artwave when I open my studio.

All classes are limited to 9 children. Advance booking and payment essential to secure a place. Please contact me to book.

I have public liability insurance, have been crb checked and have completed Stephanie Arai Davies “communicating with kids” course. I have worked with children in schools, hospices and festivals as well as from my studio.

It is my intention that workshops are a stimulating environment to gather enthusiasm and inspiration, the confidence to pursue a medium further, or just to get your creative juices flowing ...

With practical hands on support and a warm encouraging environment to explore your creativity and ideas....A held space to draw breath with no other distractions and to relish in a creative atmosphere.

The workshops are intended to be your time to relax and explore your creativity.

There is a great library at your disposal of inspirational and informative art books.

A variety of workshops run throughout the year, below are a few of the forthcoming dates.

Workshops are suitable for all ages, with a maximum of 6 and can be adapted as appropriate for the group.

ADULT WORKSHOPS, 2 days printmaking and collage.

Next Workshop  2019 TBA, 10.30am-2.30pm two days. £75

Please contact me to book, places limited to 4 people

Day 1 - The lively line.

Surface pattern and textures, an introduction to simple printmaking techniques.

The lively line is a workshop designed to inspire and introduce surface pattern and textures using some basic printmaking techniques and exploring different surfaces.

This workshop rather than directly aiming for a finished “end result” is an inspiring and supported creativity enlivening, workshop. Some of the techniques we will use are collagraph, Lino cut, Styrofoam board print and monoprint.

This workshop leads on to:

Day 2 - The Art of Collage, snip, tear and glue

The art of collage leads on from the Lively line in which you now have the opportunity to create an image with your made surface marks. You may have a particular image, be it abstract or figurative in mind, or you may just like to see where the marks take you and what emerges.

You can blend your hand created surfaces with found imagery, i.e. magazines/newspapers etc. I will have a supply but bring along any specific materials if you have them.

Thought is given to placement, composition and effective ways of using your marks in representational or more abstract imagery.

I provide all materials, tea/coffee and homemade cake

You bring a packed lunch and your imagination!

I have worked as an artist for over 25 years.

I have an art foundation, degree and a postgraduate diploma, which was in narrative and sequential illustration. I have also trained in printmaking specialising in Screen printing, relief and Intaglio.

For many years I worked as an Illustrator in publishing and design. I specialised in children's books both illustrating and writing, but also worked in advertising, editorial, packaging and greetings.

Throughout this time I regularly also exhibited my paintings and prints.

I now work mainly as a printmaker and collagist ( although I am also finding myself drawn to painting and sculpture! ) regularly exhibiting in Galleries, Brighton Art Fair, as well as opening my studio gallery. My work has also been licensed for prints and greetings cards.I have taught from my studio for the last 3 years including regular childrens classes and adult workshops.

Any questions, please do feel free to contact me.
